Geotechnical Engineering
CSTS Geotechnical is a geotechnical engineering consultancy providing site investigation, analysis, and design services across residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects. Services include borehole drilling, test pits, in-situ testing (SPT, DCP), laboratory testing to AS 1289, and detailed soil and rock classification in accordance with AS 1726. The company delivers foundation design (AS 2870, AS 2159), including shallow footings, bored piles, and rock sockets, with assessment of bearing capacity, settlement, shaft adhesion, and lateral performance. Additional capabilities include pavement and subgrade assessment in line with Austroads, slope stability analysis, retaining wall design parameters (AS 4678), and groundwater assessment. The team is led by a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), ensuring all work is undertaken in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and industry best practice.
CSTS conducts thorough site investigations to understand the subsurface conditions before construction begins. Our work includes drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing to accurately characterise soil and rock properties. Field testing methods such as Standard Penetration Tests (SPT), Cone Penetration Tests (CPT), and vane shear tests allow us to assess soil strength, density, and other critical parameters. This information forms the foundation for safe, cost-effective, and optimised design of foundations, retaining structures, and earthworks. Our investigations are tailored to each project, ensuring reliable data for engineers, architects, and developers.

At CSTS, we provide comprehensive geotechnical analysis and design services to ensure your project is safe, efficient, and durable. Using data from site investigations and field testing, our team evaluates soil and rock behaviour under different loading conditions. We design foundations, retaining structures, pavements, slopes, and ground improvement solutions that are tailored to site-specific conditions. Our engineers apply advanced analytical techniques, industry standards, and best practices to optimise designs, manage risks, and reduce construction costs. From shallow footings to deep pile foundations, and from simple retaining walls to complex slope stabilisation, our designs provide confidence that your structures are built on a solid and reliable foundation.

Piling Platform Design
Our team offers on-site geotechnical supervision and technical guidance throughout construction. We monitor excavation, earthworks, and foundation installation to ensure work complies with design specifications and industry best practices, helping to avoid delays and unexpected costs. We provide practical solutions to strengthen weak or problematic soils, improving site performance and stability. Our techniques include soil compaction, grouting, geosynthetics, and other ground improvement methods. These solutions minimise settlement, enhance load-bearing capacity, and ensure long-term reliability for your structures.

CSTS provides independent geotechnical certification to ensure safe construction practices and compliance with regulatory requirements. For crane/boom pump setups, we assess ground conditions, bearing capacities, and site-specific risks to certify that the soil or fill can safely support crane operations, minimising the risk of tipping or excessive settlement. For fill placement, we provide fill compaction testing and certification, confirming that imported or reworked materials meet design specifications and achieve the required density and strength. Our certification reports are detailed, clear, and suitable for submission to regulators, engineers, and construction teams.
